We celebrated AstroCENL 2026 at Stadskasteel Oudaen in Utrecht, spending a warm and entertaining afternoon exploring astronomy—all inspired by the total solar eclipse that will be visible in Spain in August 2026, the first total eclipse over mainland Spain since 1997.
We learned what an eclipse is and how to enjoy one, and the different scales of the Solar System from Dr. Benito Marcote; heard from Prof. Francisco Colomer about what astronomers do and the astronomy projects underway in Spain and the Netherlands; discovered some of the Sun’s most fascinating secrets with Dr. Pietro Zucca; and followed the paths of objects through space with Dr. Verónica Saz Ulibarrena, who showed us how spacecraft launch from Earth and make their way into orbit around other planets.
Around 40 people joined us to learn more about the Universe—and everyone went home with solar eclipse glasses to enjoy the event in August. We wrapped up the day with a borrel at the castle, putting the “G” in this astronomy gathering with good company, drinks, and conversation.
Thank you to our speakers and everyone who came along. We’re already looking forward to sharing more moments like this with our community!
